Lionel Messi’s first away game with Inter Miami in the MLS has stirred up quite a frenzy in the ticket resale market, with prices soaring to $20,000.
The excitement was clear when tickets for the game against FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup match sold out in a mere 22 minutes on Thursday — a fraction of the time it takes to fly from Miami to Dallas.
Resellers are offering tickets at rates of up to $3,000, and there are no options available for less than $600. The tickets’ demand has reached a fever pitch, with some going for $20,000 on the AXS resale site, more than double the average price for this year’s Super Bowl 57.
Thursday’s sale saw the tickets disappearing in a record-breaking time, emphasizing the anticipation for the match at FC Dallas’s home field, Toyota Stadium in Frisco, which seats 20,500 spectators. Similarly, Messi’s debut game at Inter Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium, with a seating capacity of 21,000, was a sellout event.
The upcoming game is significant not only for Messi but also for his former FC Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who will be making their road debuts as well.
Since Messi joined the club, Inter Miami’s ticket prices, particularly for away matches, have seen a dramatic increase. His presence has influenced ticket pricing for games against teams like the New York Red Bulls and LAFC, with prices reaching $10,000. Contrastingly, a ticket for a Chicago Fire match in late August is a mere $21, but when Messi arrives in October, the price jumps to over $1,000.
Inter Miami’s game against Atlanta United offers tickets at $135 for seats in the 300 section at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. However, this comes with uncertainty, as Messi prefers playing on natural grass, and Atlanta’s artificial turf might mean he’ll miss the match.
A victory over FC Dallas this Sunday would propel Inter Miami to the League Cup quarterfinals. The match will be hosted at home, where ticket prices have remained relatively reasonable.
Messi’s performance since joining Inter Miami has been stellar, with five goals in three matches, all of which have concluded in victories for the club.
